My Dream Home Journey

Since I work for the best modular manufacturer in the business I decided that I am going to set out on a journey and design my dream home.

I start by answering 10 simple questions about what I want.

  1. Downsizing or Expanding? - Well personally I am expanding but I think I am at the age to downsize. It is just me and my daughter E and maybe my parents in a few years. NOTE TO SELF: put in an exercise room.
  2. Crawl Space or Basement? - If you live in PA you have a basement. It doesn't mean it has to be finished right away. So I pick a basement or maybe a combination of the two.
  3. # of Bedrooms? 2 to 3 bedrooms
  4. Location of the Bedrooms? I am thinking that guests and E on one side and my bedroom on the other side of the house. She is growing up and I know I wanted my privacy at her age and older. Plus if my parents move in she and I could be on the one side and they could be on the other.
  5. # of Bathrooms? Two.  Only two.  I cannot stand to clean bathrooms!
  6. Style of Home? I am definitely for a one-story. I am drawn to a more modern interior but maybe a little more of cottage feel on the outside.
  7. Traditional Layout or Open Floor Concept? Definitely open floor concept! I love that.
  8. Ceiling Height? I grew up with a family room that has high ceilings and I love it. So maybe in the common area and kitchen.
  9. Where Do You Spend the Most Time? I love hanging out in the kitchen cooking while E does her homework. And I am a big movie buff so the living room as well.
  10. What about Balconies, Decks, Porches, an Attached Garage? I have never had a garage where my car was parked all the time. I have shoveled, scraped, wiped, chipped, and jumped my car outside since I was in college and on my own. So I want a garage. But it doesn't have to be heated or big. Just to park a car, a bike, and a scooter. As for a patio? Definitely!!!!

Here is the original floor plan I found online.  Based on the questions I answered above I will meet with Structural Modulars drafting team to come up with exactly what I want.  Subscribe to my blog so you see what I decide and the steps that follow.  Until next week...Happy Home Building!

Thinking of building a modular home?

Who are we and what do we do?

We are a modular manufacturer who builds modular structures for residential and commercial applications.

Why choose us?

We can do what most other modular manufacturers don’t do. We build the unique and different, the one of kind home structure or building.  We don't pre-build homes in hopes of you settling on one from a lot, where the kitchen and bathrooms are designed for the masses, or where your home looks like one from a 1950’s suburb.

We take your drawings, sketches, your ideas, and turn them into your home.

So how do we do this?

Let’s pretend for a moment that you want to build a new home.

  • We LISTEN. We document everything you ask and we answer your questions. If we don’t have the answer we find it. We explain to you the modular process and invite you to take a tour of our facility.

"Because, when it comes to building,
the best way to sell yourself is to
show what you do,
especially when you do it very, very well."

Our facility is broken down into stations, and as you tour each one, you watch as our craftsmen build from the inside out. When you site-build a home you build from the outside in due to weather conditions. We work in a controlled environment so we build year round. No postponing due to snow or rain and because we employ over 50 craftsmen, we are never delayed due to illness or lack of workforce.modular construction

  • We PARTNER with builders who share our vision and who build to our specifications. Once you have selected a builder they will work with us to create your dream. Your builder will be your best friend. They will be responsible for all prep work on site and all the final finishes once the house has been set, such as a garage, porch, or interior finishes.

  • We DESIGN. We take that cocktail napkin with your ideas and we turn it into a workable floor plan where you begin to visualize the rooms and layout. Your builder will assist you with all the decisions you need to make in order for us to CONSTRUCT the unit on line.

  • We PROVIDE a showroom of products from companies such as Shaw Flooring, Simonton Windows, ThermaTru Doors, Aristokraft Cabinetry, Price Pfister Faucets, and many others. We constantly look for new and competitively priced materials and products to accommodate your requests.modular home interior

Our GOAL is to provide you with a home that is built to last a lifetime and savings that you will see as the years go by. Whether it is from lower utility bills or a reduction in repairs, we want you to LIVE happily ever after.  So when you are ready to build your new home, Structural Modulars, Inc. is here to make your dream come true.

“Structural Modulars builds houses that become homes.”
– a happy customer
